Join us on a journey through the glorious South Island! This 13 day trip for LGBTQ travellers immerses you in some our of most remote wilderness, without forsaking comfort and luxury. As on all of our trips, you'll spend time with our trusted local partners, seeing New Zealand as the locals do. You’ll cruise the Marlborough Sounds on a private charter boat, hike to a glacier, learn about our farming heritage on a private farm, and taste the fruits of labour in a private vineyard tour. Spending time with the locals offers a unique and authentic taste of life in New Zealand. Experience the serene Marlborough Sounds, the beaches of Abel Tasman National Park, the wild West Coast, and the stunning natural beauty of Wanaka's mountains, lakes, and wilderness. This trip is designed to mix relaxation, gourmet food and wine, and many opportunities for soft and thrilling adventure, all in the company of other fun loving travellers. To experience all the outdoor opportunities on offer, a moderate level of fitness is advised for this trip.

Day 1: Blenheim

Welcome to New Zealand!

  • Arrive at the top of the South Island and have a day to wander around Blenheim, known for its arts, culture, and numerous wineries.
  • Gather with your travel mates for a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Blenheim - Marlborough Sounds

  • Indulge in a gourmet lunch of the finest and freshest ingredients from the sea and land, in a Mediterranean-style garden and organic vineyard.
  • Relax in nature for the next two nights in your remote lodging in the serene Marlborough Sounds.
  • Explore the area by bike, in a kayak or on a paddleboard, or just relax and soak in the water views.

Day 3: Marlborough Sounds

  • Spend a day on an exclusive charter cruising the sounds with locals who will show us the bays and native bush where few venture.
  • Stretch your legs, if you choose, on a hike from one bay to another, enjoying stunning views across the sounds.
  • Breathe in the wilderness and serenity of this special place.

Day 4: Marlborough Sounds - Marahau

  • Stop for a quick dip in the Pelorus River, where Hobbits escaped evil Orcs!
  • Travel to the fertile region of Nelson/Tasman, stopping in a small village to savour the bounty of this region: wines, craft foods and beers, and wonderful artisans and galleries.
  • Enjoy a mostly downhill bike ride through tranquil countryside of vineyards, apple orchards and olive groves to the coastal village of Mapua.

Day 5: Abel Tasman National Park

  • Golden sand beaches and turquoise waters surround you today.
  • Choose between a full day kayaking, or hiking, or a mix of both, along this glorious coastline. A water taxi ride to a beach for the day is also an option for those wishing to just chill!

Day 6: Marahau - Tauranga Bay

  • Travel through the Buller Gorge to the pounding seas of the rugged West Coast.
  • Prepare for an adventure! Primeval rain forest, stalagmites and stalactites, and luminous glowworms await you in the Nile River caves. Choose to walk these caves, or don a wetsuit and float through in an inner tube!
  • Chat with locals in a small village pub tonight.

Day 7: Tauranga Bay - Fox Glacier

  • Enjoy one of the best coastal drives in the world as you travel south.
  • Watch the crashing ocean through the unique and bizarre shapes and blowholes of the pancake rocks.
  • Wander the artsy seaside town of Hokitika, famous for its gorgeous greenstone, New Zealand jade.
  • Breathe deeply as you catch the sun setting on the Southern Alps reflected in a mirror lake.

Day 8: Fox Glacier - Wanaka

  • Join your local guide for an easy 2 hour hike along the Fox Glacier Valley trail to view the terminal face of Fox Glacier.
  • Travel the Haast Pass, following a turquoise glacier-fed river through the mountains.
  • Relax in your lakeside lodging, wondering how the scenery just keeps getting better!

Day 9: Wanaka

  • Pinch yourself as you fly over glaciers into the iconic Milford Sound.
  • Feel the spray of a thundering waterfalls as you cruise up close to the walls of the sound.
  • Add a wine tour or paragliding for your afternoon, or wander Wanaka’s boutique shops and enjoy the town’s funky vibe.

Day 10: Wanaka

  • Learn from a local about our farming heritage in an exclusive visit to a private high country station (large farm/ranch) watching how sheep are shorn.
  • Revel in the thrill of a jet boat ride on the glacier fed waters of a braided river into a wilderness environment. Appreciate the remoteness while walking through ancient forests.
  • Add a heli-glacier flight and landing for a once in a lifetime experience.

Day 11: Wanaka – Arrowtown – Queenstown

  • Cross the highest main road in New Zealand on your way to Queenstown.
  • Wander through the quaint historic gold mining town of Arrowtown, filled with cafes, restaurants, galleries, and boutique shops.
  • Visit a private vineyard with a local winemaker, tasting the wines and enjoying a vineyard dinner.

Day 12: Queenstown

  • Relax in gorgeous Queenstown, or choose to add an experience from the multiple activities on offer in this adrenaline junkie town.

  • Enjoy our final dinner with new friends on the lakeshore and share stories and favourite memories of the trip.
